iFolder 3.8

iFolder Uses

If you have a NetWare 6.5 Server you can install iFolder 2 on it. iFolder 2 is very stable, but it isn't for sharing with other people. If you have iFolder 3.8 and it's running on anything EXCEPT Novell SuSE Linux (we have one running over Ubuntu 91.0) you can create multiple iFolders and share then with different people either as Read-Only or Read-Write.

I have 3 iFolders, one is encrypted and Private (not Shared) one is for my family which is shared R/W with them and one is for sharing with selected colleagues at work.

One of the joys of iFolder is that when you are away from home or work (in a hotel for example), you can work on your Laptop with your files, knowing that when you get home / work they will be synchronized and updated on your home / work PC.

Another excellent use for iFolder is to create a dedicated iFolder Server (NetWare 6.5 and iFolder2 is fine for this) and set everyone's Local Home Directory as an iFolder. In spite of all the rules, we all know that users save important data on their local drive and in the event of theft or a disk crash, very important data can be lost. If the User's Local Home Directory is an iFolder, once they get a new machine, all their data is safely stored on the iFolder Server and they won't lose a thing!

iFolder 3.8

iFolder

iFolder is a simple and secure storage solution that enables you to access, manage, and share your personal files-from anywhere, at anytime. Using iFolder, you can designate any network server as an iFolder server and publish information to a personal iFolder created on that server. Once your folder is established, you can install iFolder on the computers you regularly use and download information from your personal iFolder to any of those computers. Not only that, but using iFolder, you can also invite other iFolder users to share your files in the same safe and secure way so that your teams always have the most relevant copy of a document.

iFolder is probably one of the most important pieces of software thaqt Novell ever developed, but like everything else, Novell dimped it to India where it became quickly ignored. It is supposed to be Open Source, but like everything else Novell, it was developed to run only on Novell's brand of Linux - SuSE and on SuSE it is incredibly unstable, even a reboot can cause it to stop working and updates are anathema!

We got the source code from Kablink (it seems to have comveniently 'vanished' now) and found some instructions on how to create an iFolder Server on Ubuntu (which didn't work!). We spent several weeks of time trying to sort this out and finally came up with an iFolder server running on Ubuntu 9.10 which is VERY stable. We have made this into an appliance which may be downloaded with full final setup instructions for your environment.

If you would like to have the appliance, please Contact Technical Support
